The program’s chief goal is to strengthen secondary students’ mathematical understandings. This is achieved by providing you with opportunities to deepen your knowledge of learners from diverse backgrounds and explore equity issues in mathematics classrooms within urban environments.

The program will prepare you to conduct action research in the context of your classrooms, inform instruction and share the knowledge gained in a professional community of teachers.

In general, the Program of Study is framed by the principles and standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

The M.Ed. major in Mathematics Education at Georgia State University is offered entirely online program and designed to be completed in four semesters.

Program Details

Admission requirements for the in-person and online program are the same, but be sure to mark the appropriate program of your choice during the application process.

When applying to the M.Ed. in Mathematics Education program, you will need to submit several documents for review:

  • Online Application
  • Application Fee of $50
  • Goals Statement (upload with the application)
  • Resume (upload with the application)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (identify your recommenders on the application)
  • Proof that you meet certification requirements in Mathematics Education at the middle or secondary levels in Georgia (upload teaching certificate to application)
  • Official Transcript(s): Undergraduate degree required for admission. Submit transcripts from all colleges/universities attended either electronically to [email protected] or by mailing directly to Georgia State University | Office of Graduate Admissions | P.O. Box 4018 Atlanta, GA 30302

IMPORTANT: Georgia State University is not authorized to deliver online academic programs to out-of-state students residing in Kentucky and Massachusetts. Successful program graduates will be well prepared to work in the most prominent public, charter, and private schools and school systems in the metro Atlanta region and beyond. Our graduates teach in middle and high schools in Georgia, including in the city school systems of Atlanta and Decatur and county schools in Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and local charter schools and private schools. Our graduates teach in schools in California, New York, Arizona and Ohio, as well as international schools.
