Built for health care professionals who are ready to specialize in the in-demand field of health informatics, the online graduate certificate in clinical health informatics is a 19 credit-hour program of study.

Health informatics brings together the design, development and adoption of information technology-based innovations in health care delivery, management and planning. By adding this graduate certificate to your resumé, you are preparing to edge out the competition as you work toward your next opportunity.

You’ll study and complete projects in healthcare data analytics, healthcare information technology, healthcare project management, and more topics that will prepare you to work at a higher level at your current job or be ready for your next role in informatics.

Georgia State graduate students in physical therapy, respiratory therapy, nutrition or occupational therapy are also encouraged to consider adding this certificate to your program of study.

Program structure: The program consists of at least two courses per semester and can be completed in 12 months (three semesters).

  • Online Application for Graduate Admissions to Georgia State University.
  • A bachelor’s degree in any field with at least two years experience in a healthcare or information technology (IT) setting
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals knowledgeable of the applicant’s professional and academic abilities.
  • Current resume including education, work experience and professional development, professional and/or community activities, research and publications.
  • A personal statement identifying your educational/professional goals and the purpose for applying to the specific graduate option (Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics).
  • Official scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), for applicants whose native language is not English. See section on “International Admissions” for more information.

The Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics is an 19-credit hour program of study. It is an online program designed for experienced healthcare professionals or current students in the Lewis College graduate clinical programs in physical therapy, respiratory therapy, nutrition or occupational therapy. Students in this program are healthcare or IT professionals who would like to transition into careers in health informatics. The program consists of at least two courses per semester, and is one calendar year long (three semesters).

The program goals for students graduating with a Certificate in Health Informatics are:

  • To understand the systems and processes associated with health informatics in the areas of clinical informatics, health information technology and health administration management.
  • To analyze and draw relevant conclusions associated with health informatics in the areas of clinical informatics, health information technology and health administration management.
  • To understand the role of and be able to effectively work in the health information, technology and administration industry.
  • To function as an effective member of a successful interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • To be an effective critical thinker.
  • To be an effective oral and written communicator.

The learning outcomes for a student graduating with a Certificate in Health Informatics are:
