Admissions Requirements

Select concentration in:

• Dual Immersion – (accepting applications)
• Elementary Mathematics – (accepting applications)
• Teacher Support & Coaching – (accepting applications)
• Elementary Literacy – (accepting applications)
• Elementary Literacy in Reading Recovery (applicants must already be accepted in the Reading Recovery Non-Degree program – accepting applications)

When applying to the Elementary Education, M.Ed. program, you will need to submit the following:

• Online Application
• Application Fee of $50
• Goals Statement (upload with the application)
• Resume (upload with the application)
• One Letter of Recommendation (from supervisor; identify your recommender on the application)
• Official Transcript(s): Submit transcripts from all colleges/universities attended either electronically to [email protected] or by mailing to Georgia State University | Office of Admissions — Graduate School |P.O. Box 4018, Atlanta, GA 30302
• Proof of meeting teacher certification requirements in Georgia

This program requires 9 hours in professional studies, 9 hours in elementary education core courses, 15 hours in a concentration and 3 hours of Capstone.

Students complete a concentration that can include an Endorsement. The continuously open Endorsements are K-5 Mathematics and Reading. Students also have the option of a Concentration in Dual Language Immersion (this may lead to an Endorsement for teachers with a Level 4 or higher renewable professional certificate in a foreign language field).

Fellowships

The Office of Graduate Programs’ Fellowship Advisor works with students interested in applying for nationally prestigious and competitive fellowships. The Office of Graduate Programs also coordinates the application process for students applying to the Second Century Initiative, the Provost’s Dissertation Fellowship and the Dissertation Library Travel Awards.

Endorsements

The endorsement options may also be completed as standalone programs. Or, if you have already completed an M.Ed., there are opportunities for the endorsement courses to count toward other graduate degrees such as the Ed.D. Once you complete the required courses for your endorsement, you should submit the CEHD Endorsement

Future Immersion Teacher (FIT) Fellowship

The Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education is a partner with the Future Immersion Teacher (FIT) Fellowship. The FIT Fellowship is an initiative of the French government’s Dual Language Fund, launched by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States and the FACE Foundation. Qualified French-speaking students enrolled in either the MEd in Elementary Education with a concentration in Dual Language Education program or the ECE Dual Immersion Early Childhood Education Endorsement program may apply for this Fellowship.
