Sport Administration, B.I.S.

The B.I.S. in Sport Administration prepares you to work in a vast, diverse and complex sport business industry. The sport business industry is among the largest industries in the United States, often listed in the top 10 industries. Size estimates of this industry show it to be somewhere between $422 billion to more than $2 trillion.

Careers range in a myriad of segments, including but not limited to, sport management, sport marketing, sport finance, sport communication, sport hospitality and management, sport facility and event management, sport journalism, public relations, sport coaching, social media marketing, and/or sport or marketing agencies.

The interdisciplinary nature of the program, with hospitality administration, journalism and public relations, and creative media industries-esports provides a wide scope of opportunities for students to focus their efforts.

Admissions Requirements

  • Successful completion of ENGL 1101, ENGL 1102, and MATH 1001 or higher
  • Successful completion ACCT 2101 and ECON 2106 with grade of C- or higher in no more than two attempts
  • Successful completion of KH 2400 with grade of C- or higher on first attempt. Apply as you near completion of these courses.
  • Submission of resume and 500-word grammatically correct essay containing a brief biographical sketch, career goals and statement outlining how BIS Sport Administration will assist in reaching goals (essay format: 1″ margins, Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced, name right-justified in header, title centered on first line, references in APA 6th edition format)

Core IMPACTS (42 hours): Students should complete ECON 2106 Principles of Microeconomics (3) in the Social Sciences section.

Field of Study (18 hours): Students should complete KH 2400 Introduction to Sport Management (3) and ACCT 2101 Principles of Accounting I (3) in this section.

Major Courses

Sport Administration (54 hours)

Students complete 30 credits of core Sport Administration courses including Sport Leadership, Sport Finance, and Social Media Strategies along with Field Experience in Sport Management.

For the remaining 24 credits, students complete 12 credits in two of the following three disciplines: Journalism and Public Relations, Hospitality Administration, and Creative Media Industries/Esports.

Allied Electives (6 hours)

Students complete additional electives in Kinesiology and Health (KH), Hospitality Administration (HADM), Journalism and Public Relations (JOUR), Speech Communication (SCOM), Managerial Sciences (MGS), Marketing (MK), International Business (IB), or Policy Studies (PMAP).

Total Program: minimum of 120 semester hours
