Sport Administration, B.I.S.

The B.I.S. in Sport Administration prepares you to work in a vast, diverse and complex sport business industry. The sport business industry is among the largest industries in the United States, often listed in the top 10 industries. Size estimates of this industry show it to be somewhere between $422 billion to more than $2 trillion.

Careers range in a myriad of segments, including but not limited to, sport management, sport marketing, sport finance, sport communication, sport hospitality and management, sport facility and event management, sport journalism, public relations, sport coaching, social media marketing, and/or sport or marketing agencies.

The interdisciplinary nature of the program, with hospitality administration, journalism and public relations, and creative media industries-esports provides a wide scope of opportunities for students to focus their efforts.

For Students in Fall 2019 Catalog and After:

  • successfully completed all courses in Area A
  • successfully completed Area E course ECON 2106 with grade of C or higher in no more than two attempts
  • successfully completed Area F courses KH 2400 with grade of C or higher on first attempt, ACCT 2101 with grade of C or higher in no more than two attempts
  • apply as you near completion of these courses
  • submission of resume and 500-word grammatically correct essay containing a brief biographical sketch, career goals and statement outlining how BIS Sport Administration will assist in reaching goals (essay format: 1″ margins, Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced, name right-justified in header, title centered on first line, references in APA 6th edition format)

For Students in Catalogs From Fall 2016 to Summer 2019

  • successfully completed all courses in Area A-E

Students can take courses numbered 1000 or above in Kinesiology and Health (KH), Hospitality Administration (HADM), Journalism and Public Relations (JOUR), Communication (SCOM), Managerial Sciences (MGS), Marketing (MK), International Business (IB), Policy Studies (PMAP), to fulfill allied elective requirement.

Reminder: Students must earn 39 semester hours at Georgia State in courses numbered 3000 or above with an average grade of at least a C (2.00 GPA).
