Want to strengthen your applications for professional school while also saving both time and money? An accelerated course of study might be for you. This dual degree program offers the B.S.in Biology in the College of Arts & Sciences and an M.S. in Health Sciences (concentration in Nutrition) in The Lewis College. Highly talented and qualified students will have the opportunity to complete both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years, saving time and tuition expenses. Participants have the opportunity to complete all general education and pre-concentration requirements for a Biology B.S. in three and a half years. If qualified for admission into The Lewis College, students can begin taking coursework toward the M.S. in Health Sciences while completing their final year of bachelor’s work. Several graduate courses will substitute for undergraduate courses resulting in a reduction of nine (9) credit hours to complete both degrees.

Dual-degree opportunities enable qualified students to enroll in graduate courses late in their undergraduate program and apply the coursework toward both the bachelor’s and master’s programs. That can mean saving a year or more in time and tuition dollars. Students must be formally accepted into the Georgia State University dual-degree program by the department and College of Arts and Sciences to be able to take graduate courses as an undergraduate. Acceptance into the dual program does not constitute admission to the master’s program. Students must fulfill regular graduate admissions requirements and apply for the master’s program following college processes. You can save a year of time and tuition money, all while preparing for the medical school application process through Georgia State University's Dual Degree program offering a bachelor's degree in Biology and master's in Medical Sciences in Biology (MBMS). Dual Degree (4+1 ) programs allow qualified students to count credits in their senior year toward their graduate degree as well. Graduates of our MBMS program are well prepared for the medical school application process with a 90 percent acceptance rate for the first three cohorts in the program. This 4+1 (Dual Degree) program allows students who have completed a bachelor's degree to avoid a “gap year” prior to applying to med school. Biomedical Science and Enterprise, M.I.S.
The Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (M.I.S.) in Biomedical Science and Enterprise program equips students to enter the biomedical science workforce through its unique interdisciplinary coursework in science, law and business, accompanied by interactive projects, internships and hands-on research experience. In partnership with the nationally ranked J. Mack Robinson College of Business and the College of Law, this innovative program teaches students how to bring biomedical advances to the marketplace, empowering them to make important contributions that could improve human health and save lives. Students gain a competitive edge by developing the skills sought by employers, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration across disciplines. They are also prepared to work in a number of areas, including biotechnology, pharmaceutics, entrepreneurship, consulting, education, outreach, government and other fields. Two Tracks, Two Career Experiences Students with strong interest in the business and/or legal aspects of biomedical science may complete the professional track, which will allow them to learn how to contribute to the commercialization of scientific discovery with a strong focus on professional development. Students with a strong interest in research may complete the research track, which will allow for hands-on-wet-lab research experience, mentorship opportunities with world-class scientists and a focus on technical development.
Biostatistics Concentration, MPH
School of Public Health
Biostatistics involves the development and application of statistical techniques to scientific research in health-related fields, including medicine, epidemiology and public health, and includes statistical work in areas of environmental study, agricultural research and biology.
Georgia State's Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Biostatistics trains students to apply statistical principles and methods to problems in public health, medicine and biology. The Master of Public Health program includes the development of analytic thinking and skill, with an emphasis on applications of research and evaluation in public health.
Coursework in this concentration covers the span of biostatistics knowledge, including study design, data management, data analysis, interpretation, statistical reporting and the use of statistical software. Master of Public Health graduates in the Biostatistics concentration are well-prepared for employment in academia, government, nonprofits, non-governmental organizations or private industry.

The B.S.Ed. program in birth through five (B-5) prepares teachers and other early care and education professionals to work in varied settings with young children and their families. Age ranges from infancy through kindergarten, including children who are typically developing and those with disabilities. The Birth Through Five Graduate Certificate is an online program for professionals who currently work in early care and learning settings and individuals interested in pursuing careers within the diverse professional field of early care and childhood education.
This certificate program was designed with three specific objectives:

Business Administration Pathway, A.S.
Perimeter College
What Is Business Administration? Business is the making, buying or selling of goods or services. Business administration is the study of principles, practices and dynamics of organizations related to commercial or industrial activity. Why Study Business Administration? The world of business is changing and expanding in new and exciting ways. At Perimeter College, Business Administration students develop specialized skills in business fields and improve their ability to communicate, think independently and thrive in the workplace. A note on pathways: A pathway is an advising guide to help students prepare for their intended bachelor’s degree major. By following the course of study outlined in the appropriate Associate of Arts or Associate of Science pathway, students will have the necessary prerequisite courses to continue in their chosen disciplines. A pathway is not a major and will not be represented on the diploma.
The Georgia State University Ceramics emphasis fosters personal exploration of subject matter, technical proficiency in a broad range of working methods, and professional presentation. Students in this program develop a broad base of technique and process knowledge that emphasizes experimentation and conceptual development. The program encourages mixed media exploration, stemming from a core knowledge of ceramic art. The students develop an understanding of ceramics’ vast history as well as an investigation of contemporary practices. Methods taught include handbuilding, wheel throwing, mold-making, slip casting, press molding, clay extrusion, figure sculpting, portrait sculpting, glaze calculation, decal creation and china painting. Students gain the experience of organizing events and marketing through their involvement with the student organization, Student League of Independent Potters (SLIPS). The organization is responsible for managing a budget, participating in fundraising through two annual sales of work and coordinating two annual visiting artist workshops.
Ceramics, M.F.A.
The Georgia State Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Ceramics program emphasizes professional skills and achievements and fosters personal direction, diversity, technical proficiency and professional presentation. The Ceramics program offers a highly progressive curriculum that considers ceramics as a broad-based, interdisciplinary practice while providing a strong foundation in the history of the discipline and fostering technical mastery of the material. The individual direction of each student is further developed and focused through intensive time in the studio, group interaction across disciplines and periodic critical reviews. Sensitive handling of material, the integrity of craftsmanship and depth of inquiry are the unifying characteristics of work made in the ceramics M.F.A. program. The program emphasizes group seminars and critiques to provide a variety of settings for the development and exchange of ideas relevant to the arts in general and ceramics in particular. In the final two semesters of the graduate program, the student completes a thesis exhibition and writes a supporting thesis paper. A strong component of the graduate program involves assistantships in either studio work or in teaching undergraduate-level courses. Students may teach a variety of courses during their studies, from Foundations to Introductory Ceramics. These experiences in conjunction with the acquisition of professional skills such as resume writing, job application skills and self-promotion prepare the student with the tools to be a professional artist once studies are complete. Chaplaincy Studies, Graduate Certificate

Georgia State University is pleased to be the first public university in the country to offer a graduate certificate program designed specifically for aspiring chaplains. This program is designed for students passionate about faith, helping others and providing spiritual support in a meaningful and impactful way. The graduate certificate program is in partnership with the esteemed Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), the premier accrediting organization for chaplains in the United States. This collaboration ensures the curriculum aligns with the highest industry standards, prepares graduates for successful careers and Board Certification upon completion (if applicable). Students in the Graduate Pathway to Chaplaincy first apply to the Religious Studies master's program (if they do not already hold an M.A. in Religious Studies), complete the two-year graduate degree, and then enroll in the Certificate in their third year. Students interested in working toward certification as a chaplain and who do not already hold a Masters degree in Religious Studies should consult with the department Chair or Graduate Director before applying to the Certificate. This comprehensive program offers a unique blend of academic rigor and practical training, equipping students with the essential knowledge and skills to thrive in various chaplaincy specialties. Students interested in institutional chaplaincy will gain expertise in providing spiritual and emotional support in settings like hospitals, prisons, hospices, and universities. What Is Chemistry? Chemistry is a physical science that helps us describe and explain our world. It is the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate to form others and how substances interact with energy. Every material in existence, including the human body, is made of matter. Almost everything humans touch, taste or smell is made of chemicals. Chemistry is involved in daily and monumental tasks, from growing and cooking food to cleaning our homes and bodies to launching a space shuttle. Why Study Chemistry? An understanding of basic chemistry concepts is important in almost every profession. Chemistry opens doors to exciting careers in medical research, biological sciences, nanotechnology, earth and atmospheric sciences, energy, pharmacy, new materials discovery and forensics opportunities. Studying chemistry provides tools to understand the world around you: How does ozone protect us from the sun? What makes hot sauce hot? What causes snake venom to be poisonous? Just what are calories, and why do they make me gain weight? Chemical scientists know the answers to such questions. They educate us about our surroundings and make our lives safer and longer. Chemistry deals with the nature of all substances and the changes that occur within them. Chemistry ranges from the study of the structure of atoms and molecules to that of the reactions occurring in living organisms. The study of chemistry can provide knowledge that will give students a greater understanding and appreciation of the world in which they live. Knowledge of chemistry is a great asset in areas such as biology, physics and health-related fields. It is a logical foundation for premedical training, pre-veterinary, pre-pharmacy and other allied health professions.
